We are pleased to announce the following classes offered at Egils XXXIX.
Sign up for classes onsite at Egils. Please pay the class fee, if any, directly to the instructor. Unless otherwise specified, classes are for anyone 8 years old and up. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
SATURDAY:

Introduction to Bardic 1:00 Saturday

Description: This class is for SCAdians who are new to Bardic, as well as musicians who are new to the SCA! Come find out about the Bardic world in the SCA!

Swordplay for Beginners and Spectators 1:30 pm Saturday

Description: I will explain my theories about intentional, attentional and philosophical aspects of The Art of Swordplay and integrate those with instruction on footwork and body mechanics. This class will not make you an expert swordfighter, but it will show you how to concentrate your training, or alternatively, how to better understand the physical and mental games that are occurring on the Tourney Field.
Students Bring: Bring your minds. Be ready to think.
Teacher Provides: I'll bring a few copies of an essay-in-progress:
"Four by Four: an Essay in the Art of Swordplay". If you want a copy, bring something to swap for it.
Brother Cadfael's Garden 1:30 Saturday

Description: Herbs of the Monastery in the first generation after William the Conqueror. I will talk a little about the theory of herb use and will discuss some herbs we have some early documentation for.
We will discuss these Herbs, and see/smell them as well as have a lecture.

SCA 202: What Comes Next? 1:30 Saturday

Description: So, you have been to a few events, or a few years of Egil's, and are interested in what else the SCA has to offer. Maybe you're still not sure what is going on with this whole SCA thing and aren't sure why you might want to head out of camp. Maybe you have some ideas about other aspects of the SCA you might want to try but don't know how. If so, then this class is for you!
This class is designed for those who have experienced the basics of the SCA and now want to know more. We will be covering topics on how to get involved in activities, where to find contacts, and why you may want to.

Chic, not Shapeless - An Overview of Female Garments, Accessories and Style from the Roman Empire 2:30 Saturday
Teachers: Lady Petronia Casta and Aemilia Rufinia
$2 fee/ 1.5 hours/ minimum 1-maximum 10
Description: This class is geared towards the lady wanting to know how to put together an entire Roman ensemble from head to toe. Students will learn generalities of Roman ladies' dress, including the names of garments, construction techniques, some of the cultural context that the garments would be worn in, and a few ideas for accessories and hairstyles.
Students Bring: Note taking materials and chair.

SUNDAY:
On-Site Plant Identification Walk 10:30 Sunday
Teacher: Magistra Raven Qara ton
$0 class fee/ 2.5 hours/ minimum 1-no maximum
Description: Weather permitting, we'll take a walking tour of the many edible, medicinal, and otherwise useful plants that grow on Lynx Hollow site, plus some local wildlife (critters, not Pirates). Learn about responsible wildcrafting, plants' historical and modern uses, and how to avoid nasty plants like poison oak and nettles.
Students Bring: PRACTICAL CLOTHES AND STURDY CLOSED-TOE SHOES—NO SANDALS. May bring a camera, sketchbook, and note taking materials.

Fine Dining on Ash and Dirt 10:30 Sunday
Teacher: Bastian Eisengart
$0 class fee/ 2 hours/ minimum 4-maximum 30
Description: Come learn some techniques and tricks for cooking at events, both on modern camp stoves and over more primitive heat sources. The course will cover topics of food safety, needed equipment, cooking techniques, meal planning, and cleaning, among others.

Tea and Tea Tasting 1:30 Sunday
Teacher: Siabhean ni h'Ullachain

Description: We will taste different types and preparations of tea and discuss them.
Students Bring: Note taking materials and, if you wish, a teacup and small towel to wipe it with.

Tempera Panel Painting 2:00 Sunday
Teacher: Antonia Crivelli
$5 fee/ 2 hours/ minimum 2-maximum 6
Description: This is an introduction to egg tempera painting on gesso-coated wooden panels in 14th-15th-century Italian style. The class covers underdrawing, mixing paint, techniques for getting particular effects, themes and examples of period secular and sacred painting. You do not need to be an experienced artist to get good effects with this technique, but some familiarity with drawing and painting is helpful. Not suitable for young children.
Students Bring: If you have small watercolor brushes you like to use, bring them.
Teacher Provides: Small wooden box to decorate and keep, paint, eggs, handout and examples to copy, some brushes.
Getting Closure: An Introduction to Period Closures and How To Make Them 2:30 Sunday
Teacher: Baroness Morrghan O'Siodhachain
$2 class fee/ 1.5 hours/ minimum 1-maximum 6
Description: This is a hands-on class where you will learn to make a variety of different closures that are appropriate for SCA costuming.
Students will learn how to make cloth buttons, eyelets, and buttonholes. Students will also learn how to apply their newly-learned skills.
